The indie MMORPG Profane is gearing up for its next big playtest, which kicks off on Monday, August 18. The dev team has shared a peek at what’s coming not just in this round, but also in the two follow-up tests that are already in the pipeline.
In the upcoming test, players can look forward to refreshed character models and expanded customization options, slick new animations for combat and gathering, and a handful of bug fixes. The developers have even reworked the crab faction, polishing both gameplay and visuals. On the quality-of-life side, you won’t need to worry about leaving your front door open anymore—houses will now close doors automatically.
The second test doesn’t have a date yet, but it’s shaping up to be a hefty one. Expect smarter NPC and mob movement, a rebalance for the Portinus faction, and some much-needed visual upgrades across multiple regions. The team also plans to squash persistent bugs like skills hitting through house walls, oddly rotating mineral veins, and those eerie “ghost houses” that sometimes pop up on the horizon. Alongside all that, stability and performance improvements are on the way.
Then comes the third test, which is where things really expand. Three brand-new regions will debut, bringing the total up to six, and players will finally get to sail using the newly introduced boat navigation system. Group mechanics will also make their entrance, along with simultaneous openings of multiple regions to boost capacity. Add to that new resources, mobs, encounters, and items—it’s going to feel like a major leap forward for Profane’s world.
The roadmap looks ambitious, but also exciting for anyone keeping an eye on this ambitious sandbox MMO. If you’ve been curious about how Profane is shaping up, this playtest season is probably the best time to jump in and see what the buzz is about.
So, what do you think—are these changes enough to get you to try the game, or are you waiting for the bigger third test? Let’s talk it out in the comments.
