Nexon to Publish Overwatch Mobile in South Korea and Japan

Blizzard partners with Nexon to distribute Overwatch Mobile across South Korea and Japan.

On April 28, Korean news outlet news.mtn.co.kr broke an exciting update: Nexon, one of the top dogs in the gaming world, has secured the rights to distribute Overwatch Mobile in South Korea and Japan. And that’s not all — the competition was fierce, with major local players like Netmarble and NCsoft also battling for a slice of Blizzard’s fresh projects, especially anything tied to the legendary StarCraft franchise.

Here’s where it gets even more interesting. Overwatch Mobile is being developed entirely in-house by Blizzard itself — no outside help from NetEase Games or any other international partners. It’s a pretty big shift from what we’ve seen before. Remember Diablo Immortal? That one was built specifically with the Asian market in mind, largely thanks to partnerships with Chinese studios. This time around, Blizzard seems determined to keep it close to home, just like they did with Warcraft Rumble.

According to MTN’s report, Korean companies initially aimed high, hoping to grab publishing rights for Overwatch Mobile globally — not just in Korea and Japan. As for StarCraft, there’s buzz around a possible spin-off project, but for now, the details are under wraps. What exactly the collaboration between Blizzard and Nexon will deliver remains a mystery… but if history is any guide, it’s bound to stir up plenty of excitement.

Honestly, as someone who’s sunk countless hours into both Overwatch and StarCraft (don’t even ask me about my ladder ranking…), I can’t help but get hyped about where this could lead. Mobile gaming is exploding faster than a Zerg rush, and seeing these iconic franchises hit new platforms is pure adrenaline.
