How to Progress as a Shinigami in Paradox

Here’s a quick breakdown of the steps needed to unlock your Shikai in Paradox:

1. Get 75 Potential and Take the Shinigami Exam

4. Fight Your Inner Spirit

Get 75 Potential and Take the Shinigami Exam

The first thing you need to do is gain 75 Potential. You can do this by completing missions given by your Division Trainer. These are the two best methods for farming Potential quickly:

• Wave Defense Mission:
  This is one of the best ways to earn Potential. You’ll need to parry and defeat NPCs. If you’re playing solo, only two enemies will spawn at a time, making it manageable. With more players, more enemies will appear. Since the pace of the game is slow, it’s easy to time your parries—practice until you get comfortable.
• Transport the Buyer Quest:
  If Wave Defense feels too tough, try this mission instead. It’s simpler, as you only need to escort an NPC, and you won’t have to fight enemies. While it might be boring, it’s an easy way to farm Potential without much stress.

After gaining 75 Potential, head to the Soul Society and find the Professor. You can press comma ( , ) on your keyboard to locate the Professor. There’s no need to talk to them—just sit on the chair and take the Shinigami Exam. Use these answers to pass the exam:

Now that you’re a Shinigami, continue farming Potential until you hit 200. If you ever see the message, “You Cannot Gain Anymore Potential Right Now,” it means you’ve hit the cap and need to fight Kisuke in Karakura Town to raise it.

Once you reach 200 Potential, you’ll unlock the ability to meditate by pressing N. This starts the Shikai Attunement process, where words will appear on your screen during meditation.

Complete the Shikai Meditation Minigame

This minigame consists of three stages, with the third stage being a boss fight against your Inner Spirit.

• Stage 1:
  Simple enough. Just press the corresponding numbers (1 to 4) that appear on your screen. This part is easy and will get you used to the process.
• Stage 2:
  In this stage, things get trickier. You’ll have to press two keys at the same time, almost like a basic rhythm game (think Guitar Hero). You’ll need to score 40 points to pass, but don’t worry—if you miss a few, it won’t take points away. Just focus on hitting the numbers in time.

After completing Stage 2, a message will appear saying, “You have advanced to Stage 3.”

Fight Your Inner Spirit

Stage 3 is different from the others—it’s a boss fight! You’ll be teleported to the Spirit Realm, where you’ll face your Inner Spirit. Walk down the flaming path to find them, hold E to interact, and the fight will start.

This battle isn’t too difficult if you use the parry system correctly. Wait for the right moment, parry the attacks, and then use your skills to deal damage when your Spirit is vulnerable.

Activate Your Shikai

Once you defeat your Inner Spirit, you’ll return to where you were meditating, and now your Shikai will be unlocked. To activate it, press V on your keyboard and call out the name of your Shikai. Each Shikai comes with unique abilities and a special weapon appearance.

You’ll also unlock three special moves that are mapped to Z, X, and C. Make sure to try them out and get comfortable using them in combat!
